Really, Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell are having more than a moment. Let me catch you up.
First, Dominic Purcell starred in a short-lived (but terribly interesting) drama on FOX called John Doe. Purcell played the titular character, who washed up somewhere with a bad case of amnesia about his identity, but who could solve crimes for the police in a snap.
Then, Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell starred in the FOX drama Prison Break. (The fan in me loves that Miller’s name is Wentworth, which is also the name of a prison in Outlander.) Purcell played Lincoln Burrows, an innocent prisoner on death row. Miller played his brother, Michael Scofield, who gets himself locked up so that the two of them can escape, which they did.
Although Prison Break was cancelled in 2009 after four seasons, it gained a very loyal and passionate following in that short time, cementing Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell into pop culture as fan obsessions.
Jump forward to 2014, when The Flash‘s EP Greg Berlanti makes fan dreams come true when he casts Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell as Captain Cold and Heat Wave, two characters from the DC comics world. They starred in three episodes: “Going Rogue,” “Revenge of the Rogues” and “Rogue Time.” (They are part of DC’s Rogues Gallery. Duh.) Viewers could tell that the pair were having a blast playing such crazy characters and their chemistry was nearly tangible.
Skip to spring 2015, with fans all atwitter (on Twitter) about Miller and Purcell being reunited, when The CW announced that Captain Cold and Heat Wave would be regular cast members in the new DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, set to premiere mid-season. Could it get any better for fans who’ve stuck by the pair since Prison Break? Yes, it can!
Today, FOX announced at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that they’re developing… wait for it… a Prison Break reboot! What the what? Before you hurt yourself trying to figure out how Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller could star in two series at the same time, the Prison Break reboot would be an event series, much like Wayward Pines or Under the Dome, meaning it will be a handful of episodes that will probably air during the winter doldrums or the summer.
I think we’re all excited!
